Voting Tips for Families with Young Children
Written by Strolling ThunderTM families
As Strolling Thunder families, we know that voting with little kids can be difficult. Here are some tips to make your experience voting with your young children a bit less stressful!
Before You Go:
- MAKE SURE YOU ARE REGISTERED and have the correct ID for your state.
- Make a plan! There are three possibilities for voting:
- Early voting: In some states, you can vote on your own timeline.
- Absentee voting: In some states, you can vote by mail.
- Voting on November 5: Take your baby with you to the polls.
- Learn your ballot. Every elected official matters for babies and families.
On the Day:
Plan the best time for you! Late mornings often have the lowest wait times. Lunch time and 4:00-6:00 pm are the busiest times of day at the polls
- Book a ride if you need one
- Pack for your baby and the weather:
- Snacks, toys, books
- A stroller or sling to keep your baby comfortable
- A fan, jacket or umbrella as needed

- Don’t forget snacks and water for you!
- Patience – stay in line! If you are waiting in line when the polls in your community officially close, you can still vote.
- Ask for help if you need it! Officials are there to make sure that eligible voters can vote.
- Think BabiesTM and Vote!
After you vote:
- Post on social media and tag #ThinkBabiesandVote.
Tell your friends and family and encourage them to vote too.
- Sample post: [NAME OF BABY] and I voted today – and hope you can too! Together, we can raise our voices to make a better future for our babies. #ThinkBabiesandVote
- Send us your photos and videos so we can help you spread the word on social media.
