Babies in Immigrant Families Need Your Help

The Trump Administration is collecting public comments on a proposed rule to allow the government to deny permanent residency (green cards) to immigrants who use – or might use in the future – public benefits, such as Medicaid and housing assistance. The fear of risking permanent residency is known to have a “chilling effect”, so that many immigrant families will avoid using programs that provide health care and safe housing, precent hunger, and other assistance. These programs are essential for babies long-term healthy growth, development, and economic self-sufficiency.

Use our pre-written template to submit your own public comment to speak up for babies who need your help! Please customize your comment with your voice and perspective. For comments to be counted separately, each one must be unique!

Start by explaining your relationship to babies (Do you have loved ones who are immigrant babies and families? Are you a care provider? Something else?) and then why programs like health care and/or food and housing assistance, are important.

For example: “I have seen how important access to the local community health centers is for children to get check-ups…” or “As an educator, I’ve already seen the impacts that hunger has on a child’s ability to learn and grow…”
